"Just a quick note to let you know how pleased myself and my girlfriend were with the book. It really was exactly what I wanted and so much more. The response was amazing and I am sure that it is something that we will cherish forever. The service and attention that you gave were perfect and I can not thank you enough. This Binding won a Highly Commended Certificate in the 2008, Society of Designer Bookbinders Competition. It is currently on exhibition along with other bindings at theRylands Library Manchester until January 17th 2009. Details are available here.
This has been sewn on 5 leather lined with linen tapes with front and back inside red suede leather fly leaves and paste downs. This book is innovative in that it departs from tradtional styles of binding in being a soft, tactile, turnable binding with suede outer and inner covers which have been lined with black card. In addition black card strips were cut and pasted onto the underside of the covers to give it added turnability. The book was then decorated with coloured leather onlays, the foredge was painted and black lines, silver circles and dots were used to create a unified pattern and help the onlays to become more subtle and in the background. A box was made to house the book in red buckram with a button and ribbons..

This style can be used in a variety of colours and with different decorative techniques. The concept has applications for many projects. It could be used to create an original and beautiful Wedding Album. Alternatively, memoirs could be printed and bound in this way. If this style appeals to you for a project that you have in mind, please contact us.

Bound in Grey cotton paper backed book cloth, with a square cut out of the front to reveal a model in the background. Pink endpapers and fly leaves decorate the inside covers and on the front the name of the fashion student is embossed in pink.
The customer, in this instance was very specific about what she wanted. She sourced her own bright pink endpapers and undertook her own research into pink foils with the information I gave her on foil suppliers. She wanted to have a square cut out of the front and her signature in a particular size on the front.
The Battle of The Somme is bound in a full green goat skin. The onlays are based on a water colour painting that was undertaken to give the idea of conflict in battle in the fields of France. The binding is edge painted with hand sewn silk headbands.

This is a re-bind in red morocco goatskin with hand marbled papers by Ann Muir.
Bound in brown goatskin with a collage of oak leaves set as onlays onto the book with a feather quill pen set into a drop back box made of linen. An acorn onlay has been placed in amongst the leaves.
