Rebound in cloth. These were two volumes that had been found by the owner and re-united. One of the volumes was shorter than the other so a box was made to fool the eye into thinking the both books were the same size.

A paperback solution
A novel way with paperback novels! This method was passed on to me by Sun Evrard and is a way of holding a paperback together using elastic thread. In this picture suede is used, but the same method could just as easily be employed using card or any thin material that can give a tight fold. This can be as simple or as sophisticated as the client requires.
-
A paperback solution
The paperback bound. The front and back are floppy covers and a wooden skewer is used to create some weight. This gives the book a very tactile feel.
-
Suede
This book was made as an experiment with suede, leather and card strips glued underneath the front cover to create depth. Black foil was embossed after the book was bound to create texture.
-
Message Ends
The client had her own leather for this project which was an antique soft hide. She wished for the book to open and close easily and flat. The title was embossed blind on the front.
-
Mesage Ends
Because the binding is non-adhesive it opens very flat. The front and back covers have wooden skewers to create weight. It also makes the binding more of a tactile object as well as being practical in helping to protect the text block.
-
Mesage Ends
An easy flat opening book.
-
Reproduction
The client requested as close a match to the original as possible.
-
Soft Bound Thesis
